Naruto's Name

Did you know…?

That there’s a place in Japan called the Straights of Naruto?

At these straights, there’s a bridge, often called the Naruto Bridge? At these straights is a famous natural occurrence. Ocean currents in this place move in such a way as to make whirlpools.

Know what whirlpool means in Japanese?

A ‘naruto’ is also a weird little slice of fish paste that is often an ingredient in ramen [our boy’s favourite food, no less]. These ‘naruto’ are white with pointy edges and a pink spiral in the middle.

What symbol does our boy frequently wear/paint on things? ...

What shape is the seal that holds the 9 tails inside him? ...

What’s Naruto’s ‘family’ name?! … Uzumaki Naruto

You got it. Uzumaki.

Above, the name is in Naruto's handwriting from his Chuunin Selection exam paper found in episode 24. 'Uzumaki" is written in Hiragana and "Naruto" is written in Katakana. Since he wrote it himself, I'm taking this to be the 'official' way to wrtite his name.

There’s a few name’s I’ve noticed that are pun names… Example, Hatake Kakashi means Field Scarecrow. Umino Iruka means Sea Dolphin… it makes sense, when you consider that Kishimoto-sensei grew up obsessed with Toriyama-sensei’s Dragonball, which is chock full of pun names. In Naruto, there are also names taken from Japanese lore, like Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru were all in one 19th century story called Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari.

I did a lot of research to find this stuff out. Please don't steal it. Thanks. - aks
